This week’s sign of the apocalypse: Buffalo, NY usually averages around 95 inches of snow a year and has already reported 101 inches with two months of meteorological winter left to go. Despite warnings of the pending storm, many residents were out and about on the Friday before Christmas amidst power outages, zero visibilities and the threat of hyperthermia. More than three dozen people have died.

Shocking? I think not! For the past 75 years, Christmas Day has been an NBA tradition. But the NFL scheduled a triple-header on the holiday and dominated the ratings on Sunday.

R.I.P. Pele` (82) – Soccer superstar and Brazilian “national treasure.” At age 17, “The King” was carried off the field after two goals in the World Cup final. Pele` went on to play 1,260 minutes over four World Cups with three championships. He retired in 1974 and returned a year later with the New York Cosmos for a then astounding $7 million over two-plus years. He was a wealthy businessman and an ambassador for UNESCO and the United Nations.
