Watching the Pats last night, they’ve pretty much wrapped up the AFC East.
Andrew Luck. That is just another reason why our 33-year old fantasy football league drafts next week and not early like most.
Quote for the week: “The reason I am retiring is simple: My desire to exit the game is greater than my desire to remain in it. I have searched my heart through and through and feel comfortable with this decision.” – Barry Sanders, 20 years ago just before the start of the 1999 season.
My favorite color is no pants.
Speaking of quotes, college football really takes off this weekend. Here’s a few classics:
“I never graduated from Iowa but I was only there for two terms – Truman’s and Eisenhower’s” – Alex Karras/Iowa
“I could have been a Rhodes Scholar except for my grades.” – Duffy Daugherty/Michigan State
“We didn’t tackle well today, but we made up for it by not blocking.” – John KcKay/USC
“All those who need showers, take them.” – John McKay/USC in the locker room after a 51-0 loss
Back to school. Which got me thinking… Why isn’t there a grade of “E?” We have “A”, “B”, “C”, “D” and “F.” What gives?
How does it happen that the McCourty twins play on the same NFL team, let alone both play in the NFL period? Same with many others? Genes man, genes!
The Washington Capitals Evgeny Kuznetsov has been banned from international competition for four years after testing positive for cocaine while representing Russia at the world championship. The positive test will not prohibit Kuznetsov from playing in the NHL.
Headline of the week: “Dad shocked after rock star’s face ‘appears’ in pork chop”
Not to be outdone by the Patriots or Red Sox, the Bruins skate for the first time on Wednesday.
A statistic not being questioned: There are more junkies in San Francisco than there are high school students.
Trivia #3 hint: The year was 2004
This week’s sign of the apocalypse: This past Tuesday, Yum Brands-owned KFC launched “Beyond Fried Chicken” in partnership with the surging plant-based food purveyor Beyond Meat. The plant-based chicken contains about 20 ingredients – the main one being pea protein.
Trivia #1 answer: Who is Charlie Berkza? – Very possibly, though not confirmed, the first fan to attend the completion of a baseball game (last Thursday) that began before he had been born. Charlie was born on Aug. 9, two days after the Red Sox and Royals were forced to stop their game in the 10th inning.
Trivia #2: Both Rafael Devers and Xander Bogaerts could finish the season with 30 HRs and 50 doubles. Who are the only teammates to ever accomplish that feat in the same season? – Sorry but I threw a trick question at you as it has never been done in MLB history.
Trivia #3: Which player finished in 2nd place in the Heisman voting, the highest place ever for a freshman? – Adrian Peterson (Oklahoma)
Have a great Labor Day weekend!
I’ve been told that I lose a lot of people with lyrics each week. So starting today I will at least give you the artist.
“Precious love
I’ll give to you
Blue as the sky
And deep in the eyes
Of a love so true
Beautiful face
You make me feel
Lite on the stairs and lost in the air
Of a love so real
And you can count me”
– Jefferson Starship
