Good news: Cancer death rates dropped 34% between 1991 and 2022. That equates to approximately 4.5 million deaths avoided due to early detection, reductions in smoking, and improvements in treatment.
Bad news: Homeowners insurance across the country is still rising, and 2025 isn’t expected to be any better for homeowners. Premiums may climb by as much as 15%, on average, with states like California seeing even higher hikes due to more frequent natural disasters plaguing the area. Insurers are passing their significant losses off to homeowners. In the first half of 2024, insurer losses hit $62 billion. Losses are expected to be even greater this year, which means higher premiums for homeowners as insurers attempt to recover.
I put on the Australian Open the other day and quickly realized why I have such trouble watching tennis: It’s the yelling and grunting.

I pretty much got away from this but R.I.P.: Robert George “Bob” Uecker (90) – Actor, comedian, professional baseball player, sportscaster. In 731 career at-bats, his lifetime WAR was -1.0. Base stealing? He was 0-3 in his career. A very quotable man… and philanthropist.
DYK: In the movie, Major League, Bob Uecker was told he could do whatever he wanted with the character, broadcaster Harry Doyle. Uecker ad-libbed everything. “Juuuust a bit outside!”
